38 Weeks

*So we went to the Dr. for our 38 week appt. First we did the ultrasound and saw our sweet girl. The ultrasound tech said it looked like Sally was measuring a bit small....which made me instantly light headed! The tech did say that my fluid looked good. When the Dr. came in, she also said Sally looked like she was measuring small...around 5 lbs. 7 oz. This was a shock since I assumed she must weigh 7 lbs. by now. She said I have had no complications so they were not worried about a growth problem. I was not dilated and my cervix was still soft. They want me to come back in on Monday so they can do another ultrasound and check my fluid. They mentioned inducing me. I am wondering two things at this point: Maybe I was never as far along as they thought? If there is no medical problem, why inducing? I would prefer for her to stay inside me and "bake" a little bit longer....maybe she will come at 41 weeks? Do ya'll have any experience with this? I am a little nervous....

*How far along?: 38 weeks...9 1/2 months...or am I??
*How big is your baby?: still a large watermelon! {she will be a watermelon until he gets here}
*Total weight gain?: at my appt. today I had gained 33 pounds total.
*Sex: Little Miss Sally
*Maternity clothes: Mostly maternity clothes...the funny thing if that I don't have ANY maternity PJ's so every night I stretch my regular sized t-shirts over my belly and they eventually stretch out.
*Stretch marks: UGH!!! Don't get me started....I thought I was going to be one of the "lucky ones" that didn't get them....no such luck. I have three small ones on my left side and some on my lower belly...not cool...not cool AT ALL!! I am trying to not let it get to me since there is NOTHING I can do about it at this point.
*Movement: She is OUT of room so movement has slowed down a little bit...but she is still active a lot at night. It is so weird to see my belly moving!
*Sleep: Hardly at all....I wake up every few hours hot and having to pee..and then I get anxious and my mind goes a mile a minute. I'm over it!
*Best moment this week: The nursery is done, we got to see Sally on the ultrasound, and my hospital bag is all packed expect for last minute throw in items.
*Food cravings: Fruit, pizza, chocolate
*Labor signs: A lot of cramps that feel like "pre-period" cramps.
*Belly button in or out: Still in but stretched....
*What I miss: being able to walk normally....
*What I'm looking forward to: Monday and our next ultrasound....I want to make sure that everything is OK with the baby.

I feel ya on the stretch marks! I made it to 37 weeks with not a single one and then BAM they suddenly popped up! Oh well! As you said, nothing you can do about it and it's a reminder of the little life you had growing inside you. I bet you are getting so excited to meet your little sweetie!

Hey first time commenter here! I just love your blog. I think you might be right on with your intuition that you might just not be as far along as you think. In my total non professional opinion if your US on Monday shows she is growing I would not let them induce you. If she is not ready to come you will have to have lots of intervention. I know as a first time mom when you get to this point you are just ready to be done but you know your body best! Good luck at your ultrasound on Monday!

Ultrasounds really aren't accurate at measuring size of baby, I think I have heard they are within plus or minus two pounds... But at 38w, why is almost six pounds even considered small? If baby is growing, getting enough nourishment, and has enough fluid; why force labor before your body is ready? I'd definitely grill the doc before agreeing to a pre 41/42w induction... Good luck!

You're looking so great, lady! I don't think you should worry about her weight, she is nearly 6 lbs! Sally's just a few oz. smaller than my girl and at this point I wouldn't think it's a big deal. We all have different sized babies and I have a few friends who had perfectly healthy babies who were just over 6 lbs! But she still has time to put on some weight anyway, I wouldn't stress! :)
