The Nursery...all the details

***I am so grateful and touched by all of the nice messages and comments you have sent about the nursery. Sally is now 2 years old and I am sadly selling her nursery bedding if anyone is interested. It is in excellent condition and includes the bumper, crib skirt and 2 changing pad covers. I am asking $300. Please comment on here if you are interested and we can work out the details.

I am so excited to share Sally's nursery with you. This project has been so fun to work on and something that I was looking forward to doing ever since I found out that I was pregnant! This was the inspiration board that I put together when I started thinking about what kind of room I wanted to make.
I think this was a pretty good indication of things to come. I am a girl who has a "vision" and knows what she wants.

Just to jog your memory...here is what our guest room looked like before we started. This was after I started packing it up. Obviously this was when it was super messy, bedding packed away, etc.
The first thing we did was clear out the room. Somehow we (and I do mean Joe and our friend, Tyler) got everything up into the attic. Hopefully we can use this furniture in the guest room at our next house. Then Joe got to work on the walls. He installed library paneling, painted it white and we painted the walls with bright blue color. I thought the color might be a little too bright, but it looks perfect now. We also painted all of the baseboards and crown molding a fresh coat of glossy white.

The finished product:
Next we took down the ceiling fan and installed a beautiful white chandelier

and new floor vent covers.
I went ahead and ordered the bedding since it had a 14 week turnaround time. When I first saw this on Etsy, I knew I had to have it. The price was more than I had wanted to spend, but it looks so freakin' cute!

I also ordered the chair. I knew that I wanted a glider/rocker that looked more like a chair. I also wanted one with a print that was safe. Hopefully We can use this chair with all of our children and just change out the throw pillow....then it can move into another room. We ordered the chair from a shop here in Memphis. It took about 6 weeks to get....not bad at all!
I started my search for an armoire early on. We found this one at a local store here in Memphis for about $200. Joe sanded it, painted it white, and added new hardware. Love it!

I made the inside of the drawers fun my using scrapbook paper and modge podge.
We used the curtains that were already in the room and I went to Hancocks and got some hot pink pom-pom fringe and hot glued it on.

I also ordered the rug from Urban Outfitters. It was backordered but I got it before Christmas.
We did some DIY art for over the crib.
I got this amazing lamp as a baby shower gift from one of my moms best friends, Susan. She found it at an antique store and painted it to match the room. She also made the monogrammed lampshade. It looks perfect in the nursery!
The side table came from my Great Uncle's house. Joe painted it white. I got the picture frame from Hobby Lobby and put a black and white picture of my mama pregnant with me in it.

The changing table was a hand me down item. It is an old Jenny Lind style. Joe's mom ordered fabric that matched the crib bedding and made a cover for the changing table pad. She actually made two different covers, but this one is my favorite.
I already had the hot pink wire baskets (bought from Hobby Lobby a few years ago on clearance}. I put lotions, creams, etc. in one basket and in the other basket I put 2 glass containers (old BBW candle holders that I cleaned out) and filled them with baby q-tips and other items. I got the glass holder from Michael's and I'm using it to store the pacifiers. On the bottom shelf I have 2 galvanized bins. I knew that I did not want baskets, so these seemed like a good option. I found these at the local Pottery Barn outlet, but the pink was wrong. No problem...I just covered them with some scrapbook paper and modge podge. I am using them to store diapers and either blankets or bibs/burp cloths.

Here is a picture of Sally's closet....little girl has a lot of clothes!! Joe installed the closet organizer from IKEA and then built the rods and shelves. I added some colorful bins and started filling it them up with all kinds of baby goodies.
Here are some more pictures:

Here is a video tour that I did:

Fill In The Blank Friday

1. My favorite place i've ever traveled to is Greece. It was the most beautiful place that I have ever seen.

2. Fiji is somewhere I'd love to go someday.

3. I pass the time on a plane (or bus, or car ride or train) by playing the ABC game with Joe .

4. My three must-haves when I travel are snack , music and a good magazine

5. My favorite travel companion is my husband Joe .

6. The craziest thing that ever happened to me while traveling is it's a toss up but they both involve Thailand. Joe got bit by a monkey...crazy I know, and we got stuck in Japan and I had to go to LA and Joe had to go to Detroit...we got separated and I didn't have a cell phone. It sucked!
7. The most exotic food I've ever tried while traveling is street food in Thailand...I'm not very adventurous when it comes to food. .

8. If I could live anywhere else, I'd live in Orange County, CA. I LOVE Laguna Beach, Newport, San Clemente, etc....too bad it costs so much...maybe one day.... .

9. I have been to 22
states in the U.S.

37 Weeks and Some Nursery Craftiness

We went to the Dr. today and I got checked again....not fun at all! I am only one "fingertip" dilated but my cervix is softer...so that is encouraging. They did the strep test last week and we found out that it came back positive...ugh! I guess it is common to be positive. The Dr. said they will give me some antibiotics when I get to the hospital. I'm excited though....we have an ultrasound scheduled for next week to try and determine how big Sally is. Woo-hoo! This is awesome news considering I had been told I would NOT get another ultrasound. I am anxious to hear how big they think she is....

*How far along?: 37 weeks...full-term baby!! Miss Sally can come any time she wants now and she will be OK :) I cannot believe that I can have my baby any day now....this is about to get real!!
*How big is your baby?: a WATERMELON. I feel like saying "I carried a watermelon"..name the movie!
*Total weight gain?: Ugh.....around 32 pounds. The good news is that I didn't gain ANY weight this week...strange huh? On the other hand, Joe has lost 10 pounds....not exactly the right time for him to be dieting if you ask me.
*Sex: Sweet baby girl!
*Maternity clothes: I feel like I wear the same things over and over....I do. I am soooo ready to buy cute Spring clothes!!
*Stretch marks: None yet!!! Knock on wood!!
*Movement: I'm sure she is running out of room in there. I still feel her rolling around and can see her move from the outside...super weird....
*Sleep: When I finally fall asleep, I sleep pretty well. When I wake up to go to the bathroom or when Joe gets up, it is hard for me to go back to sleep. My brain starts wandering and I start thinking about the dream that I just had or what I have planned for the day, etc. For example...I woke up at 4:15 this morning and COULD NOT go back to sleep...boo!
*Best moment this week: The room is finally done!!
*Food cravings: Pizza and fruit (one bad, one good)
*Labor signs: I think I have started officially having BH contractions. They are not too crazy though. I have been having lower back pains and had some strange shooting pains through my boobs a few times. The Dr. said that is normal and that they are "getting ready".
*Belly button in or out: Still in....it may NOT come out and I am OK with that.
*What I miss: being able to shave regularly and a nice Malibu and Pineapple juice.....oh, and I miss going to kickboxing. Every time I hear a Black Eyed Peas song, I want to kick and punch.
*What I'm looking forward to: meeting my sweet baby! I can't wait to see what she looks like!! We have a date night scheduled this weekend that I am excited about. They will be hard to do right when little miss is born, so we are trying to squeeze in all of the "Sarah and Joe" time that we can.

On to the crafti-goodness. If you didn't already know, dragonflies are "our thing". I have always loved them and then when I met Joe he had one tattooed on his back....crazy huh?? We really wanted to put dragonflies in the room somehow so when I saw this on Etsy, I figured I could DIY a dragonfly one.

Here is how it turned out. We love it...and yes, Joe helped me make it this week while watching one of our shows.

I used the same dragonfly paper punch to make this shadow box.

What do you think?

Thoughtful Thursday!!
