Well, I have been quite MIA lately....school has started again and my days are literally scheduled to the minute. Between working, going to the gym (everyday this week so far!!), doing Junior League stuff, etc. There is NO time for blogging, watching my shows (thank goodness we finally got DVR), or seeing my sweet husband. Luckily he understands and even scheduled a date night for us last night: Dinner at Bahama Breeze (the place of our first date, we had a coupon...yay!!).
It's teacher week here in Blogland so for the first day I would like to share 10 things about me as a teacher.
1. This is my 7th year teaching. I have always taught Kindergarten and always taught at the same school. I have only moved rooms once and that was to get a walk in closet!
2. I teach at a public school in Germantown, TN.
3. I attended the school that I work at from K-8th grade. I REALLY wanted to teach here and I get to..yay!!
4. I do not have my masters nor do I ever plan on getting it....going back to school and taking tests...yuck...no thanks!
5. I so not agree with home schooling on Montessori style teaching....kids need structure and routine AND need to be around other kids that are different than themselves.
6. I never thought I would be a teacher. I always loved children and everyone always told me that I should be a teacher. It wasn't until my seconde year of college that I finally gave in and never looked back.
7. I did my student teaching in 3rd and 5th grade....I always wanted to teach Kindergarten though.
8. I sing and dance in my room...LOUD!! So loud in fact that people complain...but I don't care...we are having FUN!
9. I LOVE teaching!! The first time I got a paycheck for teaching, I was like "wow, I got paid for that?". I do not feel like it is a job. I feel sorry for people who hate to go to work everyday. They must be so miserable :(
10. Some of my best friends are also teachers...shout out to Sister Special K in Nashvegas!!

After 2 yrs of college, an undecided major, and a 6 year break, I decided to go back and do early childhood! I should've listened to all those people that told me I should be a teacher in the first place! I still have a looong way to go, but I can't wait!
Ummm and PS...how awesome that your kiddos get to listen to the Little Mermaid soundtrack while they sleep...sign of a good teacher ha!
I should have listened when people told me to become a teacher. I got my undergrad degree in Business and now I am trying to make my way through grad school to get my MAT.
I am also a member of the Junior League. This is my first active year I am really excited about not being a provisional any longer!
Candice-It's better late than never...go you!!
Laura-I hope you are coming to our little blogger dinner and if not, I hope we meet this year in JL.
And yes...Disney music rocks!!
hey! I don't know if you remember me or not. I subbed at your school some right out of college. My mom works in the library. Anyway, I just found out you have a blog through Abby's teacher week!
Not starting an argument, but Montessori is very structured and the kids in a Montessori classroom are typically in a multiage classroom, so they actually get more balanced social interactions than in a traditional classroom. I have been a Montessori teacher for four years and am now teaching traditional Kindergarten and I'm actually struggling with the lack of structure that the other traditional classrooms have. The Montessori philosophy is just about allowing the child to learn at their own pace and through the use of hands-on experiences, much like a traditional teacher would use in centers. Both Montessori and traditional can be awesome, just like both can have flaws when not done properly.
