Mama Must Haves.....Month 1
This past month has just flown by. I love being a mommy! Sally is so sweet and easy going. I wanted to make a list of all the things that have been super helpful to help me get through the first month with a newborn. Hopefully this will be helpful to other moms to be out there.
*We use these to swaddle Miss Sally at night and to cover her during the day. They are also big enough to use to cover yourself while breastfeeding. They are super soft and are made of breathable fabric.
*We use Pampers right now. I have also used Huggies before but Swaddlers are the best!
*I love to smell Sally's sweet head after bathtime when we use this body wash. I think she likes it too!
*I love the Moby when we are shopping or walking around the block.
*This is the swing that a lot of my friends have and so far Sally loves it!
*This sheep has been a life saver. It has 4-5 different sounds that help Sally go to sleep.
*Sally had her first diaper rash and this helped clear it up fast!
Sally-1 Month
Happy 1 Month Sally!
1 month old. How can you be 1 month old already baby girl? This past month has just flown by so fast...or maybe Daddy and I are just in a sleep deprived time warp. Either way, it seems so crazy to me that you have been on the Earth with us for one whole month! I am so curious and anxious for each new milestone that you reach but I also want you to stay this small forever...when you are so warm and snuggly and so needy of Mommy and Daddy. We just want to keep you small forever, but at the same time we get so excited watching you grow and do new things. Our favorite past time is just watching you. We could watch you all day...you are so beautiful!
When you woke up this morning I gave you sooo many kisses and sang you a birthday song.
I love you baby girl....so much!
So much has happened this past month. Let's take a look:
SLEEP: This is an area that we are still working on. We usually lay you down between 8:30-9 at night and you normally crash out for a few hours. Then you normally wake up sometime around 11or 12 for a feeding and diaper change....sometimes earlier. This is when we normally have a hard time getting you to go back to sleep. We sometimes have to hold you for an hour before your eyes start to look sleepy again. Then you wake up sometimes 2 hours later and sometimes 3...but never 4. BOO! We do another feeding and diaper change. This is when I normally put you in the bed with me and we snuggle for a few more hours. We wake up around 8:30 and I feed you and change you and put your outfit on for the day. Then I usually put you in your swing where you either look around or fall asleep. This is when Mommy eats breakfast and gets dressed. If you are still asleep then I use the time to do dishes, wash clothes, put away laundry, etc. After you wake up from the swing I change your diaper and feed you again. Sometimes in the afternoon we run errands. You usually sleep for a few hours in the afternoon too...you LOVE to sleep! This is when I get dinner ready. I know I should nap when you do but there is so much to do around the house. Daddy gets home around 4:30 and usually runs. Then I do the hand off and he plays with you while I make dinner...then we start all over again. Even though I am exhausted, I LOVE our time together, and I wouldn't trade it for the world!
FEED: You continue to eat about every 2-4 hours at night and sometimes 1-2 hours during the day... definitely a growing baby!
Weight: 6 lbs. 11 oz.
Length: She was 18.5 inches long at birth...we honestly haven't measured her since. I imagine that she has grown a few inches since then.
Diaper Size:
Newborns...your bottom is so tiny!
Clothes Size:
Newborns still. I am hoping she fits into the 0-3 month stuff soon!
Hair Color:
At birth: Very dark
4 weeks: light brown in certain lights and dark in others.
Eye color:
At birth: Very dark blue
4 weeks: I think those baby blues are here to stay! But I'm not sure yet how light or dark they will be.
Funniest moment this week: You love to poop and pee on Mommy and Daddy when your diaper is off. It still surprises us every time you do this.
Milestone: You are constantly staring at everything around you. The lights. The fans. The walls. You name it, you are just taking it all in. You are more alert, throughout the whole day. Your head control is unbelievable...you can almost hold it up all by yourself for long periods of time. You make funny noises all the time, it is so cute. You can recognize mommy's and daddy's voices. Sometimes at night when you start waking up for a feed you make tons of noises, then daddy and I start talking to decide who will go change the diaper, and you become dead silent... as though you are just listening to us... it is adorable, I love it! You are able to sit better, supported obviously, and often times it makes you look like a chubby baby penguin!
Your favorite toy: Still the swing, you are great about it... however you don't want to be in it all the time.

Sally-Four Weeks Old
We took Sally to the Dr. on Thursday for a weight check and my sweet girl is
up to 6 lbs 11 oz. Yay for good eating! We don't have to go back until the appt. in April but they told us we can come in anytime for free weight checks. We will probably go every few weeks just for our own curiosity.
Loves: Sleeping on Daddy's chest, snugging in the bed with Mommy, peeing and pooping with her diaper off, being held and swayed, kisses from Hank, being swaddled (sometimes she fusses because she wants her arms out, but I think she loves it once she calms down), car rides, music.
Dislikes: Being cold, being hungry, pooping
Eating: BF is pretty non-existant at this point, it wasn't for a lack of trying though. It was too frustrating for both of us. I wasn't making enough milk and my main goal right now is feeding this little girl. It is also super awesome that Joe can feed her with the bottle. I am still pumping as much as I can and the rest of the time she gets the formula. I realize that this is not what everyone would do, but this is what we have decided works best for the three of us :)
Sleeping: Sally had a few rough nights this week. She has gone back to wanting to feed every 2 hours instead of 3-4. She is still sleeping a lot during the day. Should I be waking her up? Will that help her sleep better at night? Advice wanted :)
Clothes: Sally is still in newborn clothes and diapers. I am so hoping that her weight gain will continue and that she will be wearing her 0-3 month clothes soon. She has so many cute outfits waiting for her.
Fun Facts: Sally is VERY sneezy...they usually come in sets of three. Sally can follow me with her eyes! Sally loves to suck on the back of her hand...its so cute. She loves having her paci at night but gets frustrated and angry when it falls out. She gets mad when she has to poop. I know she isn't constipated, I think she is just figuring out how it all works. She has discovered her tongue and likes to make funny faces with it.
Mommy Moments: I absolutely LOVE kissing her forehead..especially when it wrinkles up! I haven't lost more than a pound this week...boo-hiss! My rings still don't fit...wondering if they ever will again...sigh! Daddy is so helpful. He takes you at night sometimes so I can go to bed early and once this week he got up with you in the morning so that I could sleep in.
Firsts: Sally went to Swanky's for the first time! She also has her first diaper rash. With the use of Butt Paste and Aquaphor it went away very fast. Now she has a rash on her neck. I think it may be from formula getting down there. We always wipe up dribbles but I think some may get on the collar of the onesies. Any advice with this? Her middle of the night antics made daddy late to work for the first time.

On Friday we brought Sally to her first session with the speech study that she is in. She has to wear a recording device...hence the not so cute vest.
On Saturday I took Sally on a day trip to Jackson, TN to see Beth, Brody and Kristy. Here is Sally and Brody. Hopefully they will get married one day! It was funny to see how much bigger he was than her.

We went to lunch and shopped.

Fitness Friday {Week 1}
How did Week 1 go?
My goal this week was keeping track of calories. I am super excited to report that I completed this goal. I did a good job this week meeting my goal thanks to Livestrong.com. It was super eye opening to see what I am eating and how quickly the calories add up. At the end of the day, if the calories are gone, I don't get to eat anymore. It makes me make good choices about if something is "really worth it". This is something I will for sure keep doing because it held me accountable.
Was I active?
Let me start off by saying that it is hard to be active with a newborn. My whole day consists of tending to her every need. When she sleeps is when I get stuff done around the house. Luckily my goal next week is to move everyday. So to answer the question...not really :(
Weight Loss?
I weighed myself a few times during the week and the number kept going up and down. I think I actually lost one pound.
Week 2 Goal?
Move every day......I'm on it! Like I said, this could get tricky. Joe and I will have to take turns watching Sally. He runs everyday so in order for me to workout, he will have to watch her. I am going to start slow....probably will take a power walk everyday.
